University of Ghana Debate Society to Participate in the 11th Pan African Universities Debate Championship

The University of Ghana Debate Society will make its 5th appearance at the 11th Pan African Universities Debate Championship (PAUDC) scheduled from Wednesday, 5th to Wednesday, 12th December, 2018 at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
 
What is PAUDC?
PAUDC is the biggest intercollegiate debate championship on the African continent established in 2008 by the University of Botswana Debate Masters Association. It is a platform that affords students from all universities within the continent to discuss issues of Africa and beyond.

UG EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS AT THE 14TH WAUG CHAMPIONSHIP IN NIGERIA

With thirty-eight (38) medals in all, the University of Ghana has set a standard never seen by any Ghanaian University in any international competition. At the end of the 14th West African Universities Games (WAUG) held at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, UG placed 3rd with regards to the number of overall medals as shown in the medal table (up to 10th position).  However, in terms of number of gold won, UG placed 7th out of thirty-six participating universities.

The saying, “A bad beginning makes a good ending” characterizes the slow start of the 14th West African Universities Games (WAUG), hosted by University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. After surmounting teething organization problems, the Games have been running smoothly without hitch.
 
University of Ghana (UG) is participating in Athletics, Badminton, Handball, Swimming, Table Tennis and Tennis. The performances of UG has been impressive and this can be seen in the official mid-event results below.
 

University of Ghana Revels in the Opening Ceremony of the 14th WAUG hosted by University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria

 
The fifty-one (51) contingent of the University of Ghana (UG) Team which comprised nine officials and forty-two athlete students arrived for the Games on Wednesday, 31st October, 2018. Despite encountering accommodation challenges at the Games village, the UG Team was swiftly provided with alternative accommodation arrangement, kind courtesy Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu (Director of Sports, UG) and Dr. Ted Annang (Member, Sport Management Committee) who also coupled as leaders of delegation for Team UG.
 

The University Of Ghana Inter-Hall Freshmen Debate Championship (IFDC) 2018

The University of Ghana Inter-Hall Freshmen Debate Championship is slated to commence from Friday, 19th to 26th October, 2018. The preliminary stage and the semifinals will be held at the Chemistry and Physics Departments with the finals at the Great Hall.
The Freshmen Debate Championship which is under the auspices of the Sports Directorate is an annual debate and public speaking championship which seek to introduce freshmen to debate in the university and as well identify new talents for the University’s Debate Society.

UG Prepares ahead of GUSA Cross Country

UG Cross Country Team

The Cross Country team of University of Ghana will participate in the 23rd Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Cross Country Competition on Saturday, 20th October, 2018 at University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

The athletes representing the University were all drawn from the various Halls, who participated at this year’s UG Inter-Hall Cross Country held on 21stSeptember, 2018. The team have being in camp since 1st October, 2018 to work on their pace and general fitness.
