UNIVERSITY OF GHANA LAUNCHES 2020 GUSA GAMES

The 2020 Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games has been launched during a simple and brief but impressive programme by the Local Organising Committee under the auspices of the University of Ghana Sports Directorate. The Games will be under the theme “Integrating Sports into Academia for Youth Empowerment and Development.” The event was also used to unveil the logo, theme song and mascot for the games.

COACH SAMORI BIDS UG FAREWELL

Dr. Samori Sekou Camara has called time on his role as the Coach of the University of Ghana Basketball Male Team effective 3rd June, 2019.
 
Before his official appointment as substantive Coach of the team in 2017/2018 academic year, he assisted his mentor Meme Falconer to win five (5) major trophies (1 GUSA, 1 Mini GUSA, 1 FASU, & 2 UPAC) between 2015 and 2017.

UG CONQUERS THE WORLD IN WORLD UNIVERSITIES DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Some students and officials of the University of Ghana (UG) made Ghana proud at the 39th World Universities Debate Championship held at University of Cape Town, South Africa from the 26th December, 2018 to 4th January, 2019.
 
The World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) is the largest debate competition in the world. First held in Glasgow in 1981, the WUDC has grown to include over 400 teams from 250 universities and tertiary institutions representing over 90 countries.
 

UNIVERSITY OF GHANA PARTICIPATES IN FRIENDLY GAMES WITH KWAME NKRUMAH UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

 
 
The University of Ghana Sports Directorate participated in a invitational friendly games with their colleagues from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. This invitational games were held from Friday, 8th to Sunday, 10th March, 2019 on the campus of KNUST, Kumasi.
 
This initiative is to deepen the relationship that exists between both Directorate’s and also serve as  opportunity for both University’s to train ahead of the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games to be hosted by UG in 2020.
 

UNIVERSITY OF GHANA TO PARTICIPATE IN MAIDEN AFRICAN UNIVERSITIES OLYMPICS

University of Ghana (UG) will participate in the maiden African Universities Olympic Games in Cairo, Egypt from Tuesday, 12th to Tuesday, 19th March, 2019. The competition is being organized by the Association of African Universities in partnership with All-Africa Students’ Union and Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.

UG INVITATIONAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT TIPS OFF ON FEBRUARY 23

The University of Ghana Sports Directorate is organising a one day invitational Basketball tournament on Saturday, February 23, 2019 on the Basketball Courts of University of Ghana (UG).
The tournament is to afford both the male and female basketball teams of UG the platform to improve their tactical, physical and team performance in competitive games as UG prepares to host the Ghana Universities Sports Association Games in 2020.
