UNIVERSITY OF GHANA TO PARTICIPATE IN 5TH ALL AFRICA UNIVERSITIES CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP
The University of Ghana (UG) will participate in the 5th All Africa Universities Cross Country Championship at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya on Saturday, 20th November 2021. It will be the first time the University of Ghana is participating in this Championship which is being organised by the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU).
UNIVERSITY OF GHANA CROWNED NATIONAL DEBATE CHAMPIONS
The University of Ghana (UG) Debate Society has been crowned champions of the 2021 Ghana Universities Debate Championship hosted by the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani. The Championship, which came off from 28th October to 3rd November, 2021 saw a strong resurgence from UG to clinch its second trophy in the Debate Category since 2014.
UG ATHLETE HOLDS QUEEN’S BATON AHEAD OF 2022 COMMONWEALTH GAMES
University of Ghana’s sprint gem Grace Obour together with other sports personalities in Ghana have carried the Queen’s Baton Relay through some principal streets in Accra ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in England.
EXECUTIVES OF UG DEBATE SOCIETY INTRODUCED TO SPORTS DIRECTORATE
The University of Ghana Debate Society Executives paid a courtesy call on management of the Sports Directorate. The newly elected executives were led by the Debate Coach, Mr. Lawrence Nii Kotey Neequaye.
UG SPORTS DIRECTORATE SIGNS COLLABORATIVE AGREEMENT WITH OTHER UNITS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA
The University of Ghana Sports Directorate has signed a Collaborative Agreement with five Units of the University of Ghana to enhance its mandate as a Directorate through the provision of ancillary services needed to accompany sports to reflect the modern complexities and demands of sports.
The Units involved in the collaborative arrangements to enhance and promote sophistication in sports at UG are Department of Physiotherapy, University Health Services, Department of Psychology, Department of Nutrition and Food Science and Careers and Counselling Centre.
UG SWIM COACH GETS NATIONAL APPOINTMENT
The Ghana Swimming Association has appointed the University of Ghana’s Swim Coach Mr. Daniel Opare Okyere as a member of the Technical Committee of the Association. The appointment took effect from 1st September, 2021.
The Technical Committee’s immediate task is to select and prepare The Ghana Swimming Team for the 14th African Swimming Confederation (CANA) Junior and Senior Swimming and Open Water Championship scheduled for 11th to 17th October, 2021 at the Trust Sports Emporium in Accra, Ghana.
UG DIRECTOR OF SPORTS TO SERVE AS TECHNICAL ADVISOR TO THE MINISTER FOR YOUTH AND SPORTS
The Director of Sports at the University of Ghana, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu has been appointed to serve as the Technical Advisor to the Minister for Youth and Sports on issues regarding sports development and sports for development.
His remit will entail planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Youth and Sports programmes and projects within the framework set by the National Sports Act, 2016 (Act 934)/National Youth (Act 939).
With his vast knowledge, experience and background, he will surely help in shaping and bringing in some fresh impetus.
UG DEBATE SOCIETY PREPARES AHEAD OF WORLD UNIVERSITIES DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIP
The University of Ghana Debate Society has started preparation ahead of the 2021 Online World Universities Debate Championship scheduled for 7th to 14th July, 2021. The Championship which will be hosted by Debate Korea, will be the first time it will be held virtually as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
UG COACH TO COACH GHANA TEAM AT OLYMPIC GAMES
The University of Ghana Swim Coach Mr. Daniel Opare Okyere will coach the Ghana Swim Team at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. The National Swim Team will commence their camping in Tokyo from 2nd July ahead of the Games in Tokyo. The Olympic Games will start from 23rd July to 8th August, 2021.
Mr. Abeiku Jackson and Miss Unilez Takyi who will represent Ghana at the Olympic Games qualified through the universality slots based on the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) point accumulated by the swimmers in 2021.
SPORTS DIRECTORATE – 4TH SUMMER CAMP JULY-AUGUST 2021
The Sports Directorate will run the fourth edition of the summer camp from 5th July to 6th September, 2021 on weekdays from 9 am to 3:30 pm at the Sports Directorate. The activities for the camp include Cycling, Football, Swimming and Tennis.
The summer camp is opened to all children and youth between the ages of 5 to 17 years.
