UNIVERSITY OF GHANA TO PARTICIPATE IN 6TH GUDC

The Debate Society of University of Ghana will participate in the 6th edition of the Ghana Universities Debate Championship (GUDC) which comes off from the 18th to 27th July, 2019 at the All Nations University College, Koforidua.
 
Participating Universities
The championship dubbed “Ogyamframa” (flames of fire) will have 14 Universities compete in debate and public speaking. The Universities are University of   Ghana, University of Cape Coast, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Education, Kumasi Campus, University of Development Studies, University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Islamic University, All Nations University, Central University, Koforidua Technical University, Presbyterian University and Perez University, Winneba.
 
History of Ghana Universities Debate Association (GUDA)
GUDA was first initiated by University of Ghana (UG) in 2014 after noting the absence of a debate umbrella association to represent the interest of all Universities in Ghana.
The competition brings together speakers from Universities across the country, to engage in intellectual discourse via debates and public speaking, ranging from a variety of topical issues in our society.
 
Team UG Preparation
UG will travel to Koforidua with a delegation made up of 9 teams (18 speakers), 7 judges, 2 Coaches, the Debate Coordinator, a Media Personnel and Management of the Sports Directorate.
 
The team commenced camping on 4th July under the guidance of the President of the World University Debate Council and an alumnus of UG, Mr. Antonio Edem Asinyo and Lawrence Neequaye, former President of the Debate Society as his assistant.
 
Mr. Neequaye remarked that the team has gone through rigorous training to put them in good shape ahead of the Championship. He added that they are hopeful of doing well to win the trophy and also give experience to the team as the Pan African University Debate Championship to be hosted by KNUST in December beckons.
 
The team leaves Legon for Koforidua on Thursday, 18th July, 2019.
