About the Department

Founded in 1967, the Department of Psychology at the University of Ghana is part of the School of Social Sciences, College of Humanities. We offer BA and BSc programmes with single or combined majors. Our graduate options include MPhil degrees in Clinical, Counselling, Developmental, Industrial and Organizational, and Social and Community Psychology, plus a PhD. Every graduate student completes at least 500 hours of practicum. PhD students add a year of experiential learning in clinics, industry, teaching, and research. Our faculty lead research in adolescent mental health, ageing, suicide prevention, forgiveness and mental health, and the social psychology of health and illness. We work with health, education, and community partners to solve real problems in Ghana and across Africa.

Held on 8 August 2025, our Undergraduate Psychology Research Poster Exhibition drew an excellent turnout of students, faculty, and guests. The programme, led by Professor Emmanuel Nii-Boye Quarshie, celebrated students’ growing command of research design, methodology, and data analysis. Posters covered diverse topics and sparked lively, constructive feedback sessions with staff and peers. The energy on the day reflected a strong research culture and a supportive learning community.
