The processes for requesting a review (re-marking) of examination results and the subsequent amendment of grades at the University of Ghana are strictly regulated to ensure academic integrity.
Process for Re-marking (Review of Examination Results)
If a student is dissatisfied with their results, they may follow the formal review process outlined below:
- Submission of Application: A candidate must submit a formal application for a review to the Director of Academic Affairs.
- Timeline: The application must be submitted via the students official UG email address to aad@ug.edu.gh, no later than 21 days after the results have been published on the MIS web portal or any other approved platform. Applications submitted outside this timeframe will not be acted upon.
- Personal Application: The application must be entered by the aggrieved candidate personally. Applications made by another person on a candidate’s behalf will not be entertained.
- Grounds for Review: The application must clearly state the specific grounds for the review.
- Review Fee: The candidate must pay a review fee, which is determined at not less than three times the normal Examination Fee. The review process will not proceed until this fee is paid in full.
- Sanctions for Frivolous Complaints: If the Academic Board determines that a complaint for review is frivolous or ill-motivated, it may prescribe further sanctions, which could include barring the student from taking University examinations for a specified or indefinite period.

The amendment of a student's grade is the final step of the formal review process and is governed by the following rules:
- Authorization: The Board of Examiners is the only body authorized to permit the amendment of results in light of a review.
- Prohibition of Informal Requests: It is a specific offense for a student, parent, or guardian to approach an examiner to request a favourable grade or examination outcome.
- Academic Misconduct: Irregularly enhancing or reducing a mark or grade without due process is classified as academic misconduct. This includes awarding grades for courses or assessments not taken.
- Correction of Errors: While the university has recently revised regulations to allow for the correction of clerical or typographical errors in biographical data, grade changes remain strictly tied to the formal examination review results authorized by the Board of Examiners.
The Academic Board recently reaffirmed that a Grade D is a Pass Grade, and students are generally not permitted to retake courses in which they have already obtained a D to improve their grade.
