7th AMRS-UG Workshop on Computational Modeling and Simulations
The 2026 AMRS-UG workshop is the 7th Edition of a skill training exercise organized by AMRS Ghana in partnership with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Ghana. This workshop is organized annually with the aim of equipping undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, and all other attendees with relevant skills in new-age technologies that are shaping the future of science and engineering.

Department welcome Dr. Kwaku Aning is a Ghanaian diplomat, international civil servant and technologist. He was educated at Accra Academy and Mfantsipim school for his O and A levels, respectively. He completed his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1968 from the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, MS in solid state physics from Princeton University in 1971 and PhD in metallurgical engineering from Columbia University in 1976. Dr. Aning is a former Deputy Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The Department welcome Mr. Emmanuel Appiah-Korang is a seasoned Energy and Management Consultant with over 45 years of experience for both the public and private sectors in Ghana. He was educated at Government Secondary Technical School for both O and A-levels, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology and University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with BS (1969) & MS (71) in Mechanical Engineering, respectively. He has experience in the downstream Petroleum Industry in USA and Ghana.

The department has the privilege to welcome Ing. Kwasi Poku who received his high school education at Achimota School. He then proceeded to Clarkson University in the US, where he obtained the BS and MS degrees in Chemical Engineering in 1969 and 1971, respectively. He is the principal shareholder and Managing Consultant of Cort Consultants Ltd, a pioneer multi-disciplinary consultancy firm in Accra, offering services in Process Engineering, Industrial Project Design and Management, Environmental and Safety Management, Business Development and Programming.
