Apostle Dr. Kwabena Akufo Donates to UG

The University of Ghana Sports Directorate has received equipment for playing Pickleball from Apostle Dr. Kwabena Dautey Akufo during the opening ceremony of the UG@75 Sporting Activities. The items are 5 sets of pickleball net and stand, 17 paddles, 1 ball catcher and basket and 80 plastic balls. Apostle Dr. Akufo stated that he was motivated by the love he has for Pickleball and was touched to promote it in his native country Ghana.

Presenting the items to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Professor Gordon Awandare, the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah and the Director of Sports, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, Apostle Dr. Dautey recounted that Pickleball was fast growing in Europe and the Americas and currently being considered as an Olympic sport.

The former Superintendent of the Apostolic Church in the United States of America added that the sport could be played by all age categories and very ideal for the ageing for their exercises. He remarked that the sport was being played professionally and this presents opportunities for students at the University of Ghana and the youth in the country to take advantage and learn how to play.

Dr. Bitugu and Apostle Dr. Akufo engaged in a short demonstration to the admiration of guests and students at the opening ceremony.
