About the Department

The Music Department at the University of Ghana has iconic status within Ghana and Africa and a history with roots that stretch back to Ghanaian independence. The Department prides itself on being the “Gateway to African Music.” It is a place where the scholarly study, composition, and performance of all genres of music, including Traditional music, Popular music, and Western Art/Classical music, is encouraged and taught.
