MUSC 151 Rudiments of Music

This course provides an overview of music as a subject of study to students. The course will explore basic concepts and terminologies to include elements of music such as melody, harmony, pitch, dynamics, timbre, form and texture from both African and Western perspectives. The course will also teach fundamentals of music theory such as musical notation, staff, key signatures, time signatures, cadences, non-harmonics, etc. In addition, it will examine the classification of musical instruments.

MUSC 122 Fundamentals of Music Theory

Credit Hours - 3

(18th and 19th Century Common Practice) Diatonic triads in major and minor keys and their inversions, the chord of the Dominant 7th and 9th, figured Bass, modulations, (Pivot Chord) NonHarmonic tones.
