Thesis Title: A Characterization of the alternating group A_n, for n≥8 by its fusion system over a sylow 2-subgroup

Abstract: This thesis aims to characterize the alternating group An, for n ≥ 8, by its fusion system over a Sylow 2-subgroup. The results here will contribute to Aschbacher’s programme which is aimed at providing a simplified proof of the theorem of classification of finite simple groups.
