The Department of Chemistry runs two types of undergraduate degrees: Single Major and Combined Major degrees. For the Combined Major programme students combine Chemistry with other subjects such as Biochemistry, Physics, and Earth Science. Courses taken spun the different subject areas of Chemistry (Physical, Organic, Organo-metallic, Inorganic, Analytical, and Computational Chemistry). Others include prescribed electives from the Departments of Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Food Science and Nutrition, Physics, Earth Science, Animal Biology and Conservation Science, Plant and Environmental Biology, and Marine and Fishery Sciences.

Career Prospects

A BSc in Chemistry offers wide career prospects across industry, research, public service, and business. Graduates can work in pharmaceuticals, food technology, petrochemicals, and materials science, applying chemistry to solve practical problems. They may also pursue research assistant roles, teaching, or advanced studies leading to MSc or PhD programs. Public sector opportunities include environmental monitoring, forensic science, and health and safety regulation. Entry Requirements

To gain admission into the BSc Chemistry program at the University of Ghana, applicants need strong passes in English, Mathematics, and Science, plus relevant electives (especially Chemistry and other sciences). International students must apply through the UG admissions system with recognized equivalents.
