Overview

The programme is designed to reflect modern trends in chemistry and meet Ghana’s growing industrial and research needs, especially in medicinal drug discovery, forensic chemistry, analytical and industrial chemistry, molecular biology, electrochemistry and catalysis, pharmaceuticals, and environmental sectors. It emphasizes advanced theoretical knowledge, practical laboratory skills, research training, and professional development (ethics, sustainability, and societal responsibility).

 

Aims & Objectives

The graduate study provides an in‑depth understanding of advanced chemical concepts and trains students to be independent researchers and problem‑solvers. It equips students with critical analytical skills and practical laboratory and computational skills for industry and academia. It prepares students to contribute to environmental sustainability and industrial development and produce adaptable professionals capable of thriving in diverse scientific and industrial contexts.

 

Tuition Method

Students are required to complete a full‑time study over 12 months plus a research project to qualify for an MPhil Degree in Chemistry. Teaching methods include:

  • Advanced lectures and seminars.
  • Laboratory and field‑based practicals.
  • Independent project work.
  • Department‑wide courses (physical, analytical, organic, inorganic chemistry).
  • Research methodology and professional training. Lectures, group assignments, reviews, class presentations, project work, field visits, and seminars.

 

Entry Requirement

A good first degree in Chemistry or a related subject. All programs are full‑time and require completion of coursework, seminars, and project/thesis credits.
