INSPIRATION, MENTORSHIP AND KROBO HERITAGE: MISS NGMAYEM 2026 CONTESTANTS VISIT DISTINGUISHED WOMEN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA

As part of activities leading up to the 2026 Ngmayem Festival, some members of the Ngmayem Planning Committee and contestants for the Miss Ngmayem pageant paid courtesy calls on distinguished women of Krobo descent at the University of Ghana, Legon, on Friday 16th October 2026.

The visits were aimed at providing the contestants with mentorship, inspiration and an opportunity to learn from accomplished women who continue to make significant contributions in their respective fields.

The team first met Dr. Yvonne Ayerkie Lamptey, Director of Human Resource and Organisational Development (HRODD) and an academic with the University of Ghana Business School.

Dr. Yvonne Lamptey encouraged the contestants to take their education seriously and remain committed to their personal development. She commended them for their boldness in contesting for the Miss Ngmayem crown and their willingness to become ambassadors of the Manya Krobo State.

She reminded the ladies that although only one contestant would emerge as queen, every participant stood to gain valuable experience from the pageant. The journey, she noted, offers opportunities to develop confidence, build meaningful networks, improve communication skills and prepare for future leadership roles. She also assured the contestants that her office would be open to them whenever they needed guidance.

The team subsequently met Prof. Peace Mamle Yoko Tetteh, Head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Ghana.

Prof. Peace Mamle Tetteh congratulated the contestants on their decision to participate in the prestigious Miss Ngmayem pageant, describing it as a platform that has, over the decades, helped nurture young women of Beauty, Brains and Character (BBC).

She urged the contestants to promote Krobo culture through their conduct and activities and to represent their heritage with pride wherever they go. Her message reinforced the importance of combining personal ambition with a strong sense of identity, responsibility and service to the community.

The courtesy calls also provided a reminder that women of Krobo descent continue to make their mark in academia, administration and other fields, offering younger generations examples of what dedication, education and hard work can achieve.

Joining the team during the university engagements was the affable Elizabeth Olympio, CEO of JamRock Restaurant and Grill, University of Ghana. Ms. Olympio, who also has roots in Odumase-Krobo, bonded with the contestants, offered words of advice and hosted the team for lunch. JamRock Restaurant and Grill also pledged meal coupons for the winner, first runner-up, second runner-up and their families.

The Ngmayem Planning Committee expresses its appreciation to Dr.Yvonne Ayerkie Lamptey, Prof. Peace Mamle Tetteh and Madam Elizabeth Olympio for their time, encouragement and support for the young ladies.

As the contestants prepare for the grand finale, these engagements remind us that the Miss Ngmayem crown carries a responsibility to inspire others, uphold our values and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Manya Krobo State.
