STRESS MANAGEMENT

On 27th February ,2026, the Department of Sociology hosted a seminar on how to manage
stress which was led by a Psychologist, Dr. Joana Larry-Affutu. The session provided insights into managing stress
in our daily lives.
The speaker said that stress comes from thoughts, body psychology, and environment.
She showed us a video comparing a caveman's stress cycle to an office worker's daily
routine. The caveman is chased by lions , rests, and repeats, while the office worker faces
daily stress with no rest, which affects his health .
Key takeaways included identifying stressors and avoiding what's avoidable, practising
thought management, and making time to rest, exercise, and eat well. She also emphasised
self-care practices like hydration and breathing exercises.
One important point was that we often care for expensive equipment at home more than
ourselves.
In conclusion, managing stress is important for overall well-being. As Prof. Mamle Peace
Tetteh noted that unforgiveness can fuel stress, so cultivating forgiveness is key. By
implementing these strategies, we can manage stress well.
