The Department of Psychology congratulates Dr (Mrs.) Margaret Amankwah-Poku on her promotion to Associate Professor. A clinical and health psychologist, she holds a PhD in Health Psychology from the University of Birmingham, and earlier degrees in Psychology and Clinical Psychology from the University of Ghana. Her research focuses on the psychosocial aspects of diabetes management, HIV and AIDS, psycho-oncology, and other chronic physical illnesses. She is also the 18th Warden of Volta Hall and a steady voice for student welfare at the University of Ghana.
Prof Amankwah-Poku has shaped clinical and health psychology training in the Department for over two decades. She joined the Department in 2003 after early career work as a Research Officer at the National Diabetes Research and Management Centre. Her teaching, supervision, and research record on chronic illness adjustment, women’s health, and behaviour change have informed practice in clinical and community settings across Ghana. The Department thanks her for her sustained service and looks forward to her continued leadership.
From the clinic to the classroom to Volta Hall, Prof. Amankwah-Poku has built a career around careful science, kind teaching, and student welfare.
