Dr. Cecilia Eliason

About
Dr. Cecilia Eliason is a Senior Lecturer and the current Head of the Department of Adult Health at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Ghana. She is a Registered General Nurse with extensive clinical, academic, and research experience. Her work bridges evidence-based nursing practice and public health, and she is deeply committed to high-quality teaching, mentorship, and advancing nursing scholarship in Ghana. Dr. Eliason continues to contribute to institutional development, curriculum enhancement, and national health priorities through research, service, and professional leadership.
Dr. Eliason holds a PhD in Public Health, a Master of Philosophy in Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Psychology, and is a State Registered Nurse—all from the University of Ghana. Her professional journey began as a Nursing Officer at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, where she rose to Senior Nursing Officer, specialising in emergency and medical nursing and serving as an in-service coordinator.
She is a Fellow of Sigma Theta Tau International (Chi Omicron Chapter), the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM), and the West African College of Nurses and Midwives. She is also a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholar (QES) and currently serves as a faculty chairperson/member of GCNM.
Dr. Eliason has supervised numerous graduates, undergraduates, and emergency specialist nurses to successful program completion. She has published 10 peer-reviewed articles and serves as a reviewer for eight reputable Scopus-indexed journals. She is an Assessor with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Her research interests include aging, healthcare utilisation, quality of life, stroke, family caregiving, and emergency nursing. She is currently part of an international research team exploring the vulnerability of older adults post-COVID-19 across four countries (Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Ghana).
