About

Dr. Theresa Barnes is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Research, Education, and Administration at the University of Ghana School of Nursing and Midwifery. Her clinical career began at the Trauma and Orthopaedic Unit, Korle-Bu, where she served in all three operating theatres before becoming the Nurse Manager at the Accident Centre Theatre. She currently contributes her expertise as a faculty member of AO Alliance, a global nonprofit committed to improving fracture care in low- and middle-income countries, by training operating room staff across Ghana.

Dr. Barnes also serves as an adjunct lecturer at the School of Perioperative and Critical Care Nursing, Korle-Bu, and as a facilitator with the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.

As a nurse educator, her vision is to nurture leadership, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making in nursing students, preparing them to thrive in today’s complex healthcare environments. She is dedicated to shaping competent, compassionate nurse leaders capable of driving positive change through effective healthcare management.

She serves as the Chief Executive Officer of TAB Health Solutions, a privately-owned enterprise committed to supporting healthcare professionals through specialized clinical, administrative, and logistical services. TAB Health Solutions is dedicated to advancing healthcare delivery by leveraging technological innovations to optimize operational efficiency and enhance patient care experiences.

Born and raised in Accra, Dr. Barnes is married to Mr. Samuel Hymore Boahene and is a proud mother of three children. Known for her adaptability, critical thinking, and proactive approach to problem-solving, she also enjoys reading and community service.

Her research interests and publications focus on strengthening health systems, healthcare policy development and evaluation, leadership and management in nursing, perioperative and trauma nursing, organisational governance, and innovation in clinical practice.

Education and Qualification

Dr. Theresa Barnes holds a PhD in Health Policy and Management from the University of Ghana Business School (2023), an MPhil in Nursing (2018), and a BSc in Nursing (2007), all from the University of Ghana. She is a Registered General Nurse (2009) and a certified Perioperative Nurse (2014).
