DESCRIPTION OF DEPARTMENT 

The Department of Mental Health Nursing is one of the five (5) Departments in the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM). It is responsible for training mental health nurses at the tertiary level to support mental health service delivery, teaching, research, innovation, policies, and programs in Ghana and beyond. 

VISION

 The department's vision is to be the first choice in the West African subregion and beyond in training mental health nurses and professionals to bridge the mental health treatment gap. 

MISSION 

The mission of the Department is to develop well-educated and competent mental health nurses and professionals to deliver evidence-based mental health services and generate knowledge, products, and services through research and innovation to improve mental health services

PROGRAMMES OFFERED

The Department offers a 4-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) programme in Mental Health Nursing and prepares students for licensing as Registered Mental Nurses by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. The Department has 25 students in the undergraduate programme. Postgraduate students in the Department comprise master's (MPhil and MSc) and PhD students admitted into nursing and midwifery programmes. Postgraduate students are supervised and mentored in mental health and related research and innovation development. Currently, there are 27 master's students and 5 PhD students..
