Esteemed colleagues, dedicated staff, partners, students, alumni, and friends of the Department of Maternal and Child Health Nursing, happy 60th Anniversary to us all!!
I am filled with great joy and immense pride as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of our great School of Nursing and Midwifery. Since our Department's inception, we have been dedicated to ensuring the well-being and flourishing of mothers, children, and families. Through research, education, and community collaborations, we have worked relentlessly to address the unique health challenges facing this vulnerable population and have strived to contribute significantly to creating a world where every mother and child can survive and thrive to reach their full potential.
As we celebrate this significant milestone, let us take a moment to reflect on our achievements and the lives we have touched. We have brought hope to many, empowered nurses and midwives to make informed choices, and invested in the health and well-being of future generations.
However, we must also acknowledge the challenges that lie ahead. Despite our progress, disparities persist, and new challenges arise. Our commitment to addressing these challenges is so important to the progress of the Department. We must therefore continue to adapt, innovate, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure that no mother or child is left behind.
In the face of these challenges, I have no doubt that our Department will continue to be a pivot of hope and a catalyst for change on issues related to quality maternal and child health. Our team of brilliant faculty, passionate advocates, and dedicated professionals will lead the way to create opportunities in our country where every mother and child receives the care they deserve. The department of Maternal and Child Health began its operations under the University of Ghana's collegiate system in 2003 under the College of Health Sciences, School of Nursing and Midwifery. The department has maximized its functions and demonstrated its public service in education, practice, research, and administration with immense benefits to society under the expert leadership of Dr. Comfort Affram (2008 - 2012) and Prof. Florence Naab (2012 - 2023). The department has experienced faculty with expertise in a diverse scope of maternal and child health matters across national and international contexts - details on research and projects are accessible on the departmental website - https://www.ug.edu.gh/mch/faculty-staff
