About

Dr Eric Tornu is a Lecturer and the Clinical Coordinator for the Registered General Nursing Programme in the Adult Health Department at the University of Ghana School of Nursing and Midwifery in Accra, Ghana. He is a licensed Registered General Nurse with a PhD in Nursing Science from Stellenbosch University in South Africa, a Master of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Ghana, Legon, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (First Class Honours) from Central University, Ghana, and a Diploma in Registered General Nursing (First Class Honours) from Korle-Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Accra, Ghana. 

Eric has practised as a clinical nurse and preceptor at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Department of Chest Diseases, from 2010 (Staff nurse) to 2018 (Senior Nursing Officer). He has worked as a (1) Nursing Officer at Barnor Hospital, Ghana, (2) a Research Assistant/Field Agent with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Evaluate for Health, and (3) the administrator of the Research Mentorship Alliance (a non-governmental organisation focused on mentoring nurses in research) since July 2017. Additionally, he has served as a project coordinator for the Ghana Nurse Leader Project - Phase II, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service and New York University Meyers School of Nursing, USA. He was the Distance Education Anchor for the University of Ghana School of Nursing and Midwifery Adult Health Department from 2019 to 2025.

Eric’s research focuses on Tuberculosis, HIV, chronic disease self-management, clinical guideline development, and evidence synthesis (systematic and scoping reviews) using the GRADE approach. He has ten peer-reviewed publications and reviews for 14 Scopus-indexed journals. He has successfully supervised 25 specialist/graduate research theses and serves as a thesis examiner for the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives. Dr Eric Tornu is a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholar, a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, and a Fellow of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.
