Joshua Alfred Amuah is an Associate Professor of Music Theory and Composition and the immediate past Head of the Department of Music, University of Ghana, Legon. He holds a Ph.D. in Music (Theory and composition) from the University of Ghana, Legon, in collaboration with the University of Rochester, USA. As a fellow of the African Humanities Programme of the American Council of Learned Societies, and a versatile choral director and adjudicator, he serves as the Chief Examiner of West African Senior High Schools examinations (Music), and external examiner to Departments of Music of Universities of Education, Winneba, and Cape Coast in Ghana. He has presented papers at several local and international conferences and has received several local and international academic awards. His teaching career spans all levels on the educational ladder in Ghana and some Universities abroad. Professor Amuah’s enormous publications speak to issues in choral music composition and performance styles with an emphasis on structure, text, and techniques.
