Dr. Amakye Boateng is a committed Music researcher and educator specializing in delivering quality instruction in a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. He has been a faculty member at the University of New Hampshire (visiting scholar). He is currently a senior member in the Department of Music, University of Ghana, where he has been since January 2009. He holds a Diploma in General Music, a B.Mus., an MPhil, and a PhD degree from the University of Ghana. After having obtained his PhD researching into the Music of the Tabom - Afro-Brazilian settlers in Ghana, he maintains it as his research interest. His love and interest in choral music and the youth, in particular, has led him to several schools in the regional capital, where he builds and directs school and college choirs. He is the founder and Director of the Lapaz Community Youth Choir, a non-denominational community-based choir formed to promote the appreciation of choral music among the youth in Ghana. In addition to this, he has served as an adjudicator for several singing competitions, and is currently one of the judges for 'Celebrations' - A Television reality show for singing groups and choirs organized by TV3, Ghana. Dr. Amakye-Boateng currently handles the Department’s Choral Ensemble and the University Jubilee Choir, along with other faculty.
