The Department of Music, in partnership with the Israeli Embassy, recently hosted an inspiring jazz masterclass featuring the internationally acclaimed Yogev Trio. Held in the department’s seminar room, the session introduced students to the world of Israeli-Moroccan jazz fusion through an immersive and hands-on musical experience.

Led by Israeli composer and drummer Yogev Shetrit, and joined by musicians David Shetrit and Solomon Amir, the trio guided participants through traditional North African rhythms, including insaraf, karachi, and betaihi. The musicians offered a dynamic blend of live demonstrations, rhythmic exercises, and interactive discussions, illuminating the intricate clave patterns and global influences embedded in these styles.

Students engaged directly with the trio, gaining unique insights into cross-cultural musical expression and expanding their understanding of jazz as a global genre. The masterclass provided a rare opportunity to learn from seasoned international artists, equipping participants with practical tools and fresh perspectives for their own musical journeys.
