Overview
The Legal Affairs Directorate (LAD) is the central legal services and advisory unit of the University of Ghana. The Directorate is responsible for managing and coordinating all legal matters affecting the University and providing strategic legal support to the University Council, Management, academic units, administrative departments, and affiliated bodies.
The Directorate’s functions include:
- Providing legal advice and opinions on institutional matters;
- Drafting, reviewing, and vetting contracts, agreements, and other legal instruments;
- Representing and coordinating the University’s legal interests in litigation and dispute resolution processes;
- Supporting governance and regulatory compliance initiatives;
- Advising on land, property, labour, and commercial matters;
- Assisting in policy formulation, review, and implementation; and
- Promoting effective risk management and institutional accountability.
Through its work, LAD contributes significantly to strengthening governance structures, protecting the University’s legal interests, and supporting the effective administration of the University.
