The two-year programme combines the strengths of different fields in communication industries such as journalism, advertising, public relations and development communication to provide a theoretical and professional foundation for further studies in communication, and careers in industry. Students take a first year of course work [same content as the MA programmes] followed by a second year of independent and original research. The programme is offered in two pathways: 2-year MPhil, and One year top-up MPhil.

The aim of the Doctor of Philosophy programme is to train high quality students interested in pursuing careers in academia or research, in the field of communication and media. This has become especially important considering the tremendous increase in institutions offering communication and media degrees in the country, and the need to equip them with teaching faculty.
