In The Humanities

Overview

This project was recently approved by the Board of Trustees of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in June 2019. The project aims at providing opportunities for training more doctoral students in the humanities and ultimately enhance the University of Ghana's capacity in doctoral education. The project ends in 2023.

The following outputs are expected from the project:

  • At least 13 PhD students in the Humanities will be supported by the close of the project in 2023. The 13 students will comprise at least 6 masters students enrolled from the existing Andrew W. Mellon Foundation sponsored project and 7 assistant lecturers at the University of Ghana.
  • 80 percent of PhD students would have completed their studies at the end of four years.
  • A target of 80 percent of PhD graduates would have joined faculty at the University of Ghana.
  • At least 90 percent of PhD students should have presented aspects of their research work at one regional/international conference before graduation.
  • PhD students/Supervisors have submitted at least one refereed journal article from their PhD theses before completion of the programme.
  • All the PhD students have had exposure to academic facilities, library resources and work ethics in The Andrew W. Mellon-supported partner institutions.
