About

Professor Adelaide Maria Ansah Ofei is an accomplished nurse academic, human resource consultant, administrator, and public health professional with over three decades of progressive experience in nursing education, leadership, and health services management. A Ghanaian by nationality, she is deeply committed to advancing nursing and midwifery leadership, human resource development, and health systems strengthening in Ghana and beyond. She currently serves as an Associate Professor of Nursing Administration and Leadership.

Her career spans clinical nursing and midwifery practice, health policy and human resource management with the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, and academic leadership at the University of Ghana. She began her career at the Ho Government Hospital as a Staff Nurse and Senior Staff Nurse Midwife, working primarily in the Labour and Maternity wards. She later taught Paediatrics at the Midwifery Training School, Korle-Bu.

At the Ghana Health Service, she rose to the position of Deputy Director of Training, where she revamped in-service training across the regions and played a key role in the establishment of the GCNM. Her contributions included the development of the pay structure, serving as a panel member in the recruitment of the institution’s first key employees, and helping design several course outlines. As Head of Career Development, she initiated innovative programmes such as retirement planning, quarterly appraisal systems, and the review of major HR policies of the Service.

At the University of Ghana, she has held significant leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Research, Education, and Administration at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, where she has led curriculum development, postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and research, as well as health policy engagement. She is a member of the Business Executive Committee and the Academic Board of the University of Ghana, and a former member of the School Management Committee of the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

She has served on several health training institution boards and led quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives in Ghana, organizing trainings for both academic and administrative staff. In addition, she works as a consultant for the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) validating new and ongoing programmes for Schools of Health particularly Nursing and Midwifery. She has also contributed significantly to student and professional development as a Hall tutor for Legon Hall, University of Ghana and as a Chapter Leader for Chi Omicron in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Education and Qualification

Professor Ansah Ofei holds a PhD in Health Services Management, an MPhil in Public Health (Health Policy, Planning & Management), an MBA in Human Resource Management, and a BA in Nursing with Psychology. Her research and professional expertise span nursing administration and leadership, maternal health, health service management, human resource management, nursing education, and public health policy. She is a member of the West African College of Nursing and a foundation member of the GCNM.
