News Release: University of Ghana to Collaborate on Twelve Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence (Core) Projects

The University of Ghana is delighted to announce its collaboration on twelve international research projects following the successful African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities (The Guild) summit held in Brussels under The Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence (CoRE). CoRE brings together distinguished researchers from universities and research institutes across both continents, from ARUA, The Guild and beyond the two networks. With a commitment to revolutionalise collaborative research, the University is poised to Co-lead two of these groundbreaking initiatives, while partnering on ten others. This strategic collaboration aims to prioritise equity as a prerequisite for achieving excellent and impactful research, ultimately addressing critical societal challenges.

The recent summit, which brought together esteemed representatives from ARUA and The Guild, marked a significant milestone in fostering global research partnerships. Out of the 17 approved proposals, the University of Ghana is involved in 12. As a Co-lead in two pioneering projects, the University is set to play a transformative role in shaping the future of collaborative research.

With each cluster focusing on a key societal challenge, aligned with the Global Gateway's AU-EU Innovation Agenda while incorporating local perspectives for maximum scientific and societal impact, the approved proposals span a range of fields, including Public Health, Green Transition, Innovation & Technology and Capacities for Science (aruatheguild_africa-europe-clusters-of-research-excellence-(core).pdf (the-guild.eu)).

This significant milestone of securing twelve collaborative proposals at the meeting highlights the University's unwavering commitment to research excellence, firmly establishing our position as a key player within the esteemed ARUA networks and further showcasing the breadth and depth of research conducted by the talented researchers at the University of Ghana.

These international projects demonstrate the University's collaborative approach and dedication to addressing pressing global challenges through multidisciplinary research. Our success at the ARUA-The Guild meeting reinforces our position as a hub of academic and intellectual excellence on a global scale and further solidifies the University's ranking as a top 6.1% World-Class University, 1st in Ghana, and 2nd in West Africa, according to the recent Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).

Management extends commendations to various officers of the University, particularly the Office of Research, Innovation, and Development, as well as all the Principal Investigators and units working on the twelve clusters for their invaluable contributions towards the submission and approval of the proposals.
