Facilities - Department of Food Process Engineering
Our laboratories and collaborative spaces provide students and researchers at the University of Ghana with industry‑grade equipment, hands‑on training, and a supportive environment for innovation in food processing, safety, and packaging.
Our Core Facilities
The Department operates three primary laboratory spaces to support undergraduate teaching, graduate research, and industry collaboration.
Graduate Research Laboratory
Advanced research hub for MPhil and PhD students focused on novel food materials, nano/micro‑encapsulation, process optimisation, and applied food science.
Features & capabilities
- High‑precision analytical instruments (HPLC, GC, spectrophotometers)
- Pilot‑scale sample preparation and controlled environment chambers
- Data analysis workstations & collaborative research bays
Wet Laboratory
Designed for experimentation with biological and liquid food systems - microbiology, chemistry, product formulation and quality testing.
Key equipment
- Fume hoods, incubators, autoclaves
- Microscopes, pH and moisture analysers
- Cold storage & aseptic sample prep stations
Dry Laboratory
Computational and analytical space for modelling, process simulation, packaging design and data‑driven research.
What you can do here
- Process simulation & CAD for equipment design
- Statistical analysis, product shelf‑life modelling
- Workstations with modelling and simulation software
Safety, Training & Usage
All users must complete the department safety induction and follow lab protocols. Protective clothing and approvals are required for specific procedures.
