PEBO 302: Whole Plant Physiology

Credits:
3

This course describes how plants perform various physiological functions by utilising and combining some biophysical concepts and specialised anatomical structures to be able to adapt successfully in their environment. Relevant areas such as plant water relations, absorption of water, transpiration, stomatal physiology, overview of diffusive and convective transport in plant systems will be prioritised. Comparison of xylem and phloem transport in plants will be treated. A survey of phytohormones and brief coverage of dormancy, germination and growth, flowering and fruiting will be given the needed attention. The Genetics and molecular analysis of flower development will be emphasised.
