Objectives and Vision

 

VISION

To become a world-class research-intensive centre in algal, fungal, plant and environmental biology for the benefit of society, and industry, and thus promoting global sustainability and human wellbeing.

MISSION

Our mission is to promote all aspects of plant and environmental biology, through quality teaching and innovative research; and to build capacity of algal, fungal, plant and environmental biologists to be capable of confronting challenges and dilemmas of society, and thus enhance human wellbeing.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To promote commitment and improvement in our teaching and research endeavours.
  2. To promote greater research output in the department and in the process advance knowledge about plants to benefit biodiversity, environmental sustainability, and human wellbeing.
  3. Dissemination of research through publications, seminars and workshops, public lectures; and in the process bring plants to people and people to plants.
  4. To increase active involvement at national level, and increase public awareness of, and support for, our work; increase engagement with government, industry, and the private sector.
  5. To increase active involvement at the international level, and forge effective and long-lasting strategic partnerships.
