Collaborations

  • Ghana Biodiversity Information Facility: The Ghana Biodiversity Information Facility, which is the national node of GBIF (www.gbif.org) is hosted at the department. The department provide office space, personnel and other support to the work of the node.
  • Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew: The Department has collaborations with Royal Botanic Garden (RBG), Kew (www.kew.org) for many years. Some of the major collaborative projects include the Ghanaian Rheophytes Project (1993-1997), African Plants Initiative Project (2003-2012), and Crop Wild Relatives of Ghana (2016-2018). In 2003, the Department hosted Kew’s Herbarium Techniques Course in Ghana for the entire West Africa sub-region.
  • Missouri Botanic Gardens, USA: The department was a major collaborator with the Missouri Botanic Garden (MOBOT; www.missouribotanicalgarden.org) in the collection of plants in search anti-cancer agents.
  • Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Ghana: The Department collaborates with many of the 13 research institutes of the CSIR-Ghana (www.csir.org.gh) . In particular, the department has and continue to collaborate with the Forest Research Institute (FORIG-CSIR), Water Research Institute (WRI-CSIR), Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute (PGRRI-CSIR), Food Research Institute (FRI-Ghana), and Crops Research Institute (CRI-Ghana) in many areas of research.
  • Other Collaborators: The department is into various levels of collaborations at the national level including with public institutions such as the Forestry Commission, Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), National Biosafety Authority (NBA). Our partners also include NGOs and Civil Society Organizations across the country.
