The night sizzled, and the moon shone bright on Friday, November 28, 2025, when the College of Education celebrated its 2nd Staff and Students Awards & Dinner Night at the Great Hall, University of Ghana. The event began in earnest at 4:00 pm, as the sun slowly glided towards rest. The three schools, School of Communication and Information Studies, School of Leadership and Teacher Education and the School of Continuing and Distance Education announced their presence in elegant fashion styles and glamour. The sound of authentic Ghanaian music stealthily diffused into the atmosphere, cascading an ambience. It was a sight to behold and a night to remember.
The ceremony was to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals within the College of Education who have made significant contributions to the University through their dedication and diligence. The Department of Distance Education was well represented and swept more awards than any other department in the College, with two female students and six staff members receiving awards in different categories for their exceptional performances.
The “Best Organiser Award” went to Mr Kennedy Ofori, whose commitment to students' support services management had made a significant impact. His passion for students’ success has earned him an indelible impression on the minds of students. The Department’s administrative cornerstone, Mrs Dorothy Barnor, was honoured with the “Meritorious Award” (Senior Staff) for her relentless pursuit of excellence in discharging her duties. Her dedication and efficiency had made her an invaluable asset to the department. The last name in the staff category was bellowed out, and it was Ms. Cynthia Adeborna, Winner, “Best Worker Award”. Her warm and encouraging demeanour had endeared her to both students and colleagues. She was recognised for her unwavering dedication and enthusiasm towards students’ progress and success. Mr Peter Affum, a beloved staff member who has shown diligence in the discharge of his duties, spanning many years, was also honoured with the “Meritorious Award” (Junior Staff). His affable nature and commitment has earned him widespread recognition in the School.

Next, Prof. Simon-Peter Kafui Aheto was recognised for his outstanding contributions in the field of digital innovations and ICT infrastructures in tertiary education, winning the “Meritorious Award” (Senior Member). His unwavering ability in galvanising support for technological solutions in open and distance learning was worth celebrating.

The crowning moment came when the Head of Department, Distance Education, was awarded the “Distinguished Researcher Award” for his groundbreaking works in Open and Distance Learning, inclusive online education and curriculum decolonisation across the globe. His dedication to pushing the frontiers of adult learning innovations and pedagogy was truly inspiring.

The ceremony presented a memorable opportunity for students and staff members to come together to celebrate each other’s achievements. The awardees expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Provost, Prof. Nii Ardey Codjoe, the College Secretary, Award and Organising Committees for the recognition and commitment to celebrating hard work and resilience. The awardees were equally grateful to all whose confidence in them culminated in their nominations and recognition of excellence. The ceremony ended with great musical performances, dinner, photography and merriment.
