About the Department
The Department of Agricultural Extension at the University of Ghana is committed to promoting sustainable agricultural transformation and rural development through quality teaching, innovative research, and community engagement. Its programmes combine traditional and emerging areas of study, including rural sociology, communication, gender planning, agricultural value chains, entrepreneurship, climate change, and sustainable livelihoods. The department equips students with the knowledge and practical skills to become effective change agents, development practitioners, and managers who contribute to rural transformation and sustainability across government, non-governmental, and international development organizations. Guided by its vision of excellence in agricultural extension delivery and its mission to foster human and organizational development, the department continues to shape leaders driving innovation and positive change in agriculture and rural communities.

University of Ghana's "FlyCycle" Team, has won a top prize at an international food systems challenge in the Netherlands. The first-year students impressed judges with their project using Black Soldier Fly larvae to create sustainable, low-cost animal feed, earning €1,000 and a spot at the World Food Forum in Rome.
