Overview
Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness is one of the units in the School of Agriculture focusing on issues related to the humanities in the agricultural sector. The Department contributes to the achievement of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through excellent teaching, research, extension and consulting. The Department aspires to be a centre of excellence in research and training in the areas of Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Administration and Agribusiness. It seeks to provide a congenial environment for the training of highly qualified and enterprising agricultural economists, agricultural administrators, and agribusiness practitioners for the purposes of training/teaching, research and extension. At the undergraduate level, the Department offers courses in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. The Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness programmes include courses in agriculture, agribusiness, economics, and business. They address issues related to production, agribusiness, economic development, macroeconomic policy implications, environmental policy, natural resource management, trade, and consumption.
Aims & Objectives
The Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness programmes are designed to empower students to become innovative leaders in the fields of agricultural economics and agribusiness. These programmes equip students with robust analytical tools, to enable them to effectively address complex resource allocation challenges within agriculture, agribusiness, natural resources, and rural development.

The BSc in Agriculture with options in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness provides a diverse range of career opportunities both within and outside the agricultural industry. Graduates can pursue careers in areas such as banking, sales, finance, farm management, consulting, research, policy analysis, project management, operations management, development planning, marketing, and supply chain management.
