UNPFA Country Representative Visits RIPS

The Acting Country Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Mr. Barnabas Yisa has together with a team from his organisation paid a visit to the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS).

The purpose of the visit was for the Representative to officially introduce himself to the Institute and to discuss the continued partnership between the two institutions particularly, in the organization of the 50th anniversary celebrations of RIPS. The visit was also to afford him the opportunity to explore new avenues for collaboration.

Mr. Yisa noted the significance of RIPS to UNFPA given the role the UN played in establishing the Institute. In particular, he recognized the significant role of RIPS in terms of research and the training of population scientists in Sub-Saharan Africa and added that UNFPA would continue to draw on the expertise of RIPS to support the implementation and evaluation of their programmes. He acknowledged the role of some RIPS faculty in supporting the UNFPA Country office in various programmes.

In response, Prof. Bawah, thanked the UNFPA Country Representative for the visit, as well as the support that UNFPA has provided to the Institute over the years. He also thanked UNFPA for accepting students of RIPS to undertake their experiential learning as part of their PhD studies.  Prof. Bawah assured him that RIPS will continue to collaborate with UNFPA for the mutual benefit of the two institutions.

The team from RIPS included Prof. Stephen Owusu Kwankye, Dr. Pearl Kyei, Mr. Benedict Fosu Adjei, Ms Esther Yorku, Ms Efua Turkson and Mr. Iddrisu Mutaru.
