UG Student Receives Scholarship From Wesda

The Students Financial Aid Office (SFAO) of the University of Ghana has received a cheque for GHC3,032 from the Women’s Empowerment for Social Development in Africa (WESDA), a non-governmental Organization. The amount covers the payment of the Academic and Residential Facility User Fees, feeding, books and pocket money for a level 100 BSc Administration female student.

Co-founder of WESDA and CEO of Moco Foods Ltd., Mr. Jeffery Mougaine who made the presentation on behalf of his team indicated that, the Organisation appreciates the funding challenges in education and therefore raises funds from companies to support students and educational institutions. He was hopeful that the donation will be the beginning of a relationship with the University which will grow stronger with time.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. James K. Adomako who received the cheque on behalf of the beneficiary student, expressed gratitude to WESDA for the gesture. He noted that the University has been encouraging philanthropists, especially Alumni of the University to assist brilliant but needy students. He expressed the hope that with time WESDA will have the capacity to assist more needy but brilliant students in the university. Dr. Adomako charged the beneficiary student to work hard and maintain high grades to justify her selection for the sponsorship.

The Head of the Student Financial Aid Office of the University, Mrs. Christine Baning was grateful to WESDA for the sponsorship package. She said there was a thorough process in selecting the beneficiary, whom she described as not only intelligent, but one who demonstrated that she was a team player and had leadership qualities.
