School of Biological Sciences Holds Awards Ceremony

The School of Biological Sciences held its maiden awards ceremony on September 29 2021 to recognise the hard work and contributions of retirees and past Heads of Department.

In his remarks, the Dean, School of Biological Sciences, Prof. Augustine Ocloo, noted that the awards ceremony was instituted to acknowledge the efforts of faculty members who have served the University for over twenty years and successfully retired. The ceremony was also intended to congratulate past Heads of Department of the School who have completed their tenure.

The following received awards in recognition of their impressive contribution to the School and the University, namely, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, former Vice –Chancellor, who served as Dean of the School in 2014; Prof. Kwaku Tano-Debrah, former Dean, School of Graduate Studies and Former Head of Department (HOD), Nutrition and Food Science (2008-2011); Dr. George Wiafe, Former HOD, Marine and Fisheries Sciences (2007-2009); Dr. Samuel Addo, Former HOD, Marine and Fisheries Sciences (2018-2020) and Dr. Ebenezer Owusu, Former HOD, Plant and Environmental Biology (2017-2019).

Prof. Ocloo also presented a cheque covering an amount of $2,500 to Ms. Deborah Ahiaku, a Level 100 student of Biological Sciences. He explained that the School sought financial assistance for Ms. Ahiaku from the Olivia Amoah-Bosompem Memorial Scholarship to support payment of Ms. Ahiaku’s academic facility user fees (AFUF) after she solicited for help.

Present at the ceremony included Prof. Sandow Mark Yidana, Dean, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Prof. Francis Ewusi Nunoo, HOD, Marine and Fisheries Sciences, Prof. Francis Gbogbo, HOD, Department of Animal Biology and Conservation Science; Prof. Osborne Quaye, HOD, Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology; Prof. Alex Asase, HOD, Plant and Environmental Biology; Mr. Emmanuel Godwyll, Senior Assistant Registrar/Administrator, School of Biological Sciences and Mr. Divine Kwaku Sunu, Accountant.
