Student athletes from the University have again excelled at the just ended 3rd African Universities Tennis Slam/Rugby and Tennis FASU Championship hosted by Makerere University, which had 20 universities across Africa participating.
University of Ghana was represented by six (6) student athletes, one (1) student leader and four (4) officials. The events in the Tennis Championship were men singles, women singles, men doubles, women doubles, mixed doubles, men’s team event and women team event. University of Ghana won six out of the seven gold medals available. In the women singles category, there were silver medallists as well.
Radiating joy and happiness, the Director of Sports, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, stated that, “the silent and patient investment in university sports at UG and the policies we’ve designed and are using seem to be bearing fruits and we think that it is a strategy which has been institutionalised with support of Management as well as the cooperation of staff and members of the various outfits at the Sports Directorate”.
