The Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Ali H. Halabi has called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu. The purpose of his visit was to assure the new Vice-Chancellor of the continued support of members of the Lebanese community in granting scholarships to students, as part of their contribution to education in Ghana and also to find out other ways the people of Lebanon could assist the University of Ghana.

Welcoming Ambassador Halabi, the Vice Chancellor thanked him and the Lebanese community in Ghana for supporting and enhancing teaching and learning in the University of Ghana.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), Prof. Kwame Offei who is also the Chairman of the Students Financial Aid Committee extended the University’s gratitude to the Ambassador for his avowed commitment and support to the University and  all those who contribute towards the funds for the scholarship scheme. He assured Ambassador Halabi that, the scholarships would go a long way in motivating talented students to learn harder in order to achieve success in their academic work.

Prof. Offei also appealed to the Ambassador to consider expanding the scholarship package beyond Law, to other disciplines since many more brilliant students require financial assistance. In response, the Ambassador promised to expand the disciplinary coverage of the scholarship in the foreseeable future. He however, expressed his satisfaction with the academic performance of the beneficiaries.

Mrs. Mercy Haizel- Aisha, the Registrar was also present at this meeting.

The Lebanese community in Ghana sponsors brilliant and talented students in public universities. Last year, over 100 scholarships were disbursed and some of the beneficiaries were students from the School of Law. These scholarships are given strictly on the academic performance of beneficiaries and disbursed by the Students Financial Aid Office of the University of Ghana.
