Installation of Electronic Access Control at Halls of Residence Commences

As part of efforts to enhance security and safety of students, particularly in their Halls of Residence and to digitalise the operations of the University, a symbolic on-site ceremony to kick-start the Access Control & Security Project has taken place at Akuafo Hall.

During the ceremony, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor responsible for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon A. Awandare, formerly handed over the site to the contractors, Persol Systems Limited, and urged them to ensure the timely completion of the Project.

In response, Mr. Thomas Philips, Director, Systems Integration at Persol Systems Ltd, expressed appreciation at working with the University Management and guaranteed the provision of a state-of-the-art access system in addition to first class support service from his organisation.

The Access Control & Security Project is spearheaded by the Access Control Committee, which is made up of representatives of all the Halls of Residence, students, relevant stakeholders and chaired by Mr. Benjamin Cobblah, Deputy Chief Information Technology Officer in charge of IT Planning, Support and Security. The Project will be replicated in all the traditional Halls in its initial phase.

Present at the ceremony were Dr. (Mrs.) Margaret Amankwah-Poku, Head of Halls; Mr. Francis Kwabena Boachie, Chief Information Technology Officer; Prof. Kwaku Oppong Asante, Akuafo Hall Master; Dr. George Frimpong, Senior Tutor, Akuafo Hall; Mr. Emmanuel Godwyll, Senior Assistant Registrar, University of Ghana Computing Systems (UGCS); Mr. Mawusi Kofi Golozah, Senior Assistant Registrar and Administrator, Office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and other officials from the Halls, UGCS and PDMSD.
