College of Education Advisory Board Inspects Facilities at the Kumasi City Campus

The Advisory Board Members of the College of Education, together with the Provost and other College officials, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Kumasi City Campus facilities on Friday, January 12, 2024. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the state of the bungalows and other infrastructure owned by the College.

During the inspection of bungalows in Amakom and Buokrom, Nana Dwemoh Benneh, Chairman of the Advisory Board, speaking on behalf of the Board, expressed concern about the deteriorating condition of the bungalows. They recommended an immediate professional assessment, urging for an assessment report to be submitted to the Advisory Board for further guidance and recommendations to the College Management.

In addition to the bungalows, the team inspected other facilities at the Kumasi City Campus, including lecture halls, ICT labs, library, among others. A notable concern emerged regarding the malfunctioning Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) in the server room. The Board recommended engaging an expert to assess the UPS, determine the need for repairs or replacement, which would further guide decisions regarding the required capacity for an air conditioning system in the server room.

During a meeting with the Acting Principal and staff of the Kumasi City Campus, the Advisory Board Chairman explained that the visit aimed to gather firsthand information about the challenges faced by the newly designated city campus. The information received would enable the Advisory Board to provide informed recommendations to College Management, aiming to enhance student experience at the Kumasi City Campus.

In his welcome address, Professor Edward Nketiah-Amponsah, Acting Principal of the Kumasi City Campus, expressed his appreciation to the team for the visit and for undertaking the very important exercise.

Nana Dwemoh Benneh, Chairman of the Advisory Board urged the Acting Principal to identify outstanding works, estimate associated costs and draft a proposal for private sector support. The Board also challenged the Principal and Coordinator to explore transformative initiatives independently.

Expressing gratitude to the Board, Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, Provost of the College of Education, commended members of the College of Education Advisory Board for their commitment and proactiveness.  

Seizing the opportunity, the Provost emphasised the need for innovative fundraising initiatives in all the City Campuses. He highlighted that with the growing student population, the College could advocate for increased financial support from the University Management.

The Provost encouraged all staff to work diligently to overcome the challenges and contribute to the overall success of the Campus.

In closing remarks, Dr. Philip Mantey, the Centre Coordinator, extended gratitude to the delegation for their visit. Assuring the Board that all noted issues would be addressed with the support of all the staff.  He finally, affirmed the Kumasi City Campus’s commitment to enhancing their stakeholders experience on campus.
