The Department of Music hosted the S+T+ARTS 4AFRICA Residence Program Info Session on 31st January 2024. The residency program calls on artists to apply for a challenge titled "Coding Ghanaian Culture: Reimagining Nsadwase Nkɔmɔ for Contemporary Relevance." This challenge aims to revitalize Anansesem storytelling and palmwine music traditions, a cultural heritage facing a decline within the context of Nsadwase Nkɔmɔ. Artists are tasked to create digital fusion that incorporates these traditions into youth engagement while preserving their traditional values. The projected envisages a reimagined Nsadwase Nkɔmɔ, where Anansesem storytelling and palmwine music becomes an appealing to the younger generations. It aims to rekindle interest among the youth, fostering a deeper appreciation for their cultural heritage through innovative digital mediums.

In this residency, artists will experiment with various technologies, including interactive storytelling platforms, virtual reality, and immersive audio experiences. By exploring these technologies, the challenge hopes to create an immersive, participatory experience that transcends traditional boundaries, making the Nsadwase Nkɔmɔ performance circle an interactive journey into Ghanaian cultural narratives. The residency which will be hosted by UGBS Innovation Hub with support from the Department of Music provides an ideal space for this exploration as it fosters collaboration between artists, cultural experts, and technologists to shape a digital future for the Nsadwase Nkɔmɔ Performance Circle.
