About the Department

The Music Department at the University of Ghana has iconic status within Ghana and Africa and a history with roots that stretch back to Ghanaian independence. The Department prides itself on being the “Gateway to African Music”. It is a place where the scholarly study, composition, and performance of all genres of music is encouraged and taught, including traditional music, popular music, and Western Art/Classical music.
