I am incredibly honored and elated to stand before you on this memorable occasion to give this speech on behalf of my fellow graduands, the 2023/2024 cohort of the regular master’s program at AIMS Ghana. I would like to express my gratitude to God and commend each graduand for this remarkable feat. Many of us will attest to the enormous effort required to gain admission to the postgraduate program at the esteemed African Institute for Mathematical Sciences and the challenging campus life.
We arrived at AIMS Ghana’s multicultural campus on 19th September 2023, about 10 months ago full of anticipation and excitement. This took place in the context of the various experiences and news that we had heard from friends, family, and social media. We would have been dumbfounded if someone had asked us specifically what caused the emotion. However, we can now confidently state that we have accomplished our goal at AIMS Ghana. If nothing else, graduating with a postgraduate certificate in Mathematical Sciences and the necessary experiences to pursue our dreams is worth celebrating.
AIMS Ghana has been more than just a place of learning; it has been a crucible in which our minds and spirits have been forged, preparing us to embrace the challenges of the world beyond these walls. Many of us can remember the quizzes on Dynamical Systems, Statistical Physics, and Random Systems, and assignments that left many of us with no choice but to embrace all-night discussions, sleep in the academic facility, and even submit whatever we had by the deadline.
Our time at AIMS Ghana has been nothing short of transformative. We arrived as individuals driven by a passion for mathematics and left as a cohesive community, bound together by shared experiences and a commitment to excellence. The rigorous academic curriculum, the mentorship of our esteemed professors, and the good fellowship among peers have all played a pivotal role in shaping us into the professionals we are today.
Dear graduands, as we step into the next phase of our lives, let us carry with us the invaluable lessons that AIMS Ghana has imparted. Let us remember the countless hours spent pondering over complex equations, the moments of triumph when a problem was finally solved, and the resilience we displayed in the face of academic challenges. These experiences have not only honed our mathematical astuteness but have also instilled in us the virtues of perseverance, collaboration, and intellectual curiosity.
To the Mastercard Foundation, the Government of Ghana, esteemed funders, and many other donors of AIMS Ghana, we say Thank You. We are extremely grateful for your generous support and commitment to the development of talented scholars across Africa.
My deepest gratitude to the management of AIMS Ghana. Your unwavering dedication, guidance, and support have been instrumental in our academic and personal growth. Your mentorship has not only enriched our knowledge but has also inspired in us a deep sense of responsibility to use our skills for the betterment of society.
To our dedicated academic director, expert lecturers, and resourceful tutors, we are particularly grateful for your relentless efforts to nurture us and bring out the best in us. We do not take your counsel for granted. Your sacrifices to develop the talents in Africa are greatly appreciated.
Fellow graduands, as we disperse to embark on diverse paths, let us strive to be ambassadors of knowledge and change, using our mathematical expertise to tackle the pressing issues facing our society. Let us look to the future with optimism, armed with the knowledge that we are equipped to overcome any challenge that comes our way.
Class of 2023/2024, God did it; we made it.
As we bid goodbye to AIMS Ghana, let us embrace the opportunities that lie ahead and continue to uphold the values of integrity, scholarship, service, and the give-back spirit that has been instilled in us during our time here. A charge to keep we have; to steer the frontiers of science and technology in Africa and the world at large.
Once again Congratulations, Class of 2024.
Thank you!
Merci!
Asante!
