OPEN DAY

The University of Ghana Takoradi City Campus as part of its sensitization exercises held a Float and Open Day respectively on Thursday, the 18th and Friday, the 19th of January 2024. The Team from the University of Ghana Takoradi City Campus was escorted by some Police Officers through the Takoradi Township. They disseminated information to various stakeholders regarding the taught program on the Campus and invited stakeholders to the Open Day which took place the very next day.

The Open Day was chaired by Professor Jemima Anderson of the English Department, who is also the Director of the UG-Pan African Doctoral Academy (UG-PADA) and who served as the representative of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo.

Dr. Robert Lawrence Afutu-Kotey, Coordinator of the Learning Centre at UGTCC in his opening remarks indicated the importance of establishing a City Campus of choice in the Western Region to provide sterling quality education to prospective students within the region and its surrounding environs.

Professor Bernardin Senadza, the Acting Principal of the Takoradi City Campus

Professor Bernardin Senadza, the Acting Principal of the Takoradi City Campus extolled the benefits of studying at the UG Takoradi City Campus (UGTCC). He also encouraged prospective students to take full advantage of the opportunities presented to them through the establishment of a City Campus in Takoradi and Kumasi. He explained that the only program currently available to students was the Bachelor of Science in Administration with diverse areas of specialization such as Banking and Finance, Insurance, Public Administration, and Health Services Administration to name a few. These courses would be taught by renowned faculty of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS).

Prof. Jemima Anderson further underscored the importance and benefits that would accrue to stakeholders who opt to join Team UGTCC. She provided information on admission quotas, cut-off points for admission, and the opportunity for students who do not meet the requisite cut-off point used at the main Campus to enjoy the same level and quality of education as students on the main campus are afforded. She encouraged prospective students to take up the offer of admission since the Management of the City Campus has put in place measures to house students who express interest in hostel facilities albeit, off the Campus.

Prof. Anderson encouraged all present to encourage potential students to apply to the Takoradi City Campus.

A question and answer session followed the various presentations. There were some comments and contributions from various quarters. Management present deftly answered all questions such as those that related to admission on the main campus and the effects the academic backgrounds of students had on their admission processes. They were informed of available financial aid for students of the University of Ghana and other available packages given by both private and public institutions such as the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and Tullow Oil Scholarships. Students were urged to work hard to ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria for selecting scholarship awardees.

Reverend Pray-Kay, a participant at the event recommended that the Management of the City Campus should explore ways of collaborating with the Christian bodies within the Region to promote development on the Campus.

In attendance were Ms. Bernardine Bediako-Poku, Senior Assistant Registrar & Campus Administrator, Mr. Michael Asante Darko, Principal Accounting Assistant, Mrs. Mercy Obeng, Principal Administrative Assistant, Mr. Francisco Kadzi, Senior ICT Assistant and Mrs. Vida Amartey the Senior Programme Organiser at the Takoradi City Campus. The event was moderated by the Campus Administrator.
