On February 22, 2025, an air of excitement and anticipation filled the Smart Classroom at Takoradi City Campus as Level 100 students embarked on a significant academic milestone—their matriculation ceremony. This event, marking their formal entry into the institution, was held virtually, allowing students to join their colleagues across Ghana in an interconnected celebration of their academic journey.
Matriculation is an important academic tradition at the University of Ghana. It serves as both a rite of passage and a mandatory requirement for all newly admitted students, as stipulated in Article 31 of the University of Ghana Act 210 (Act 806). By taking the matriculation oath and signing the register, students commit to upholding the University’s values, rules and academic integrity.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, Provost of the College of Education, commended the students for their perseverance in securing admission to Ghana’s premier university.

“Today’s ceremony marks the beginning of an exciting academic journey, one that will be both challenging and rewarding. You are now part of a vibrant community of scholars where opportunities for growth and innovation abound,” he stated.
Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, College Registrar of the College of Education, reiterated the importance of matriculation, stressing that it is more than a ceremonial event. He cautioned that students who fail to complete the required process would not be eligible to graduate. While visiting and short-stay students do not participate in the ceremony, they are still expected to adhere to the University’s regulations.
Following the speech, students solemnly took the matriculation oath. This moment symbolized their pledge to uphold the values and responsibilities of the institution. Reinforcing this message, Prof. Charity Akotia, Chair of the Implementation Team, and Prof. Bernardin Senadza, Acting Principal of the Takoradi City Campus, encouraged the students to maintain a strong work ethic throughout their university years.
Among the distinguished attendees was Dr. Emmanuel Ferguson Aikins, the premier lecturer of the campus, Ms. Bernardine Agyeman, the Campus Administrator, staff, and students alike shared a collective sense of excitement for the academic journey that lay ahead.
As the ceremony concluded, students left with renewed determination, ready to immerse themselves in the challenges and opportunities that higher education presents. The matriculation was not just an event—it was the beginning of a transformative experience that would shape their futures at the Takoradi City Campus.
