Jonathan Quartey (PhD)

Jonathan Quartey is Senior Lecturer, Coordinator of the Health Professions Education Unit, College of Health Sciences, and Head, Department of Physiotherapy, School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences (SBAHS), University of Ghana. He is physiotherapist by training and has garnered close to 20 years’ experience and extensive international exposure in physiotherapy as a practitioner, lecturer and researcher.

Jonathan holds a PhD in Physiotherapy, from University of Pretoria, South Africa, two masters from University of Ibadan, Nigeria (Physiotherapy) and University of Maastricht, the Netherlands (Health Professions Education) respectively.

He has served and continues to serve on some University Committees in different capacities. These include Ethics and Protocol Review Committee of SBAHS, World Confederation for Physical Therapy Membership Committee and Health Professions Education Committee of College of Health Sciences. Jonathan has participated in, and presented at numerous scientific conferences, workshops and continuing education programmes. He has reviewed several abstracts for Conferences/Congress, is a reviewer for a peer reviewed Journal and also has publications in peer reviewed journals.

Jonathan is Chairman of the Africa Region of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy. He was a Member of the Medical Sub-Committee for the 2019 All Africa games to be held in Rabat, Morocco, Member of the Scientific Committee for the 2020 World Confederation for Physical Therapy Africa Region Congress to be held in Cotonou Benin and also a Member of the Medical Sub-Committee of Ghana Olympic Committee for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games. He is past President, Ghana Physiotherapy Association and past Chairman, National Council of Ghana Physiotherapy Association.

Jonathan was a resource person for the American College of Sports Medicine International Team Physician Course held in Accra in November 2018, has served on numerous occasions as a member of the technical teams of various sporting disciplines in Ghana, particularly football for local and international assignments.
