About the Department

The Department of Physics was one of the pioneer departments set up in the University College of the Gold Coast in October 1948. The Department incubated the Department of Computer Science, which is now a full-fledged department of the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS). The Radio-Isotope Unit of the Department was subsequently moved to Kwabenya as the first laboratory of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission.
